Dave’s auto Center interview with Lake Speed Jr

Lake Speed Jr. is far from an oil specialist, I would fade most of what he says

How should I deal with this rust on the underside of my older F-150

Forget Zeibart, that tar based product will only lock moisture in. I found that out the hard way. Oiling is the only way this to stop the rust spread, if you want to go cheap, chain saw bar oil, has a tackfier for retention. If you want to spend, use fluid film or Wollwax

2006 Pathfinder P0420 DTC with exhaust leak

So changing the rear o2 seems to have fixed this code. I would not have believed it, but here we are.

How should I deal with this rust on the underside of my older F-150

Exactly, that is not major rust by northern standards, and we are not looking to do a full restoration. Scrap off the loose rust and oil it. Move on

Method E: Hook up cables to doner vehicle, with engine running Take cable ends and swiftly strike together, let sparks fly to make sure connection is good Hook cables to dead vehicle. if cables are too short, touch both steel bumpers together to make ground (like we did back in the old days)

2006 Pathfinder P0420 DTC with exhaust leak

Well, I do have a spare rear O2 never installed its a API brand (China) I may as well install it and see. Also, I have been getting different readings from my 2 front O2s' This was the case with my old sensors, and the issue carried over to the new sensors. Bank 1 voltage is always about 2x...

2006 Pathfinder P0420 DTC with exhaust leak

I plan to buy a locally made CAT, they are $99 CAD. No idea if they are CARB, not I guess not. The truck is in great shape, but we are talking 18 years old, and I use it mostly for winter. I would just skip replacing it, but I read the porcelain can crumble, and get sucked up into the engine...

2006 Pathfinder P0420 DTC with exhaust leak

Both front O2 sensors are new, the muffer is one year old and the flange on the rear cat, and the flange on the muffer are not a perfect fit, as the gasket has worn out on the bottom over the past year from exhaust gas blowing by. A tiny leak I would say. I have susupected the primary cat, as...

    UOA time frame for analysis

I wish I had. The sample sat undesturbed for 2 yrs and I poured what I needed into the sample bottled and mailed it off. Later when I poured out what was left, a nice black sediment layer was left behind

    UOA time frame for analysis

Here is the reply: We can certainly still test that sample, If you could just make a note about it being in a plastic container for a couple of years, that might help us account for any unusual contamination that might turn up. Still, if you kept it sealed over that time, it should test...
