Motor oil prices went up dramatically when crude hit US$147/bbl in 2008, and then never came back down afterward--even during the collapse of crude oil prices in 2020. Seems to me that market volatility considerations have already been priced into motor oil. Why would $110 crude spike the cost...
The last time I saw non-detergent motor oils mentioned was in the manual of our 1972 Toro Fiesta lawn mower--and even then, it stated that either detergent or non-detergent oils could be used in its 3.5HP B&S motor.
This, and I don't see any reason to overthink small engine oil. I've yet to own power equipment that had to be retired due to an engine failure. Some other critical part that can't be repaired, replaced, or worked-around has always been the culprit.
Just checked online, and my local Family Farm & Home store has no fewer than five options on the shelf for SAE 30.
MAG1 (made by Warren and probably the same as SuperTech) is on sale for $2.99.
Thanks for chiming in. I've had the same notion; a couple of times on 9 February the light flickered while hitting a bump at 55 MPH. The flickering lamp was first observed 15,000 miles ago and has come back three times since, always in wintertime with the engine fully warmed up. Surely the...
Usually it flickers at low RPM but sometimes does so at speed. Shutting the car off for about 10 minutes clears it up. I drove straight to my local oil change place and had the oil and filter changed ASAP when it happened using the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum/OEM filter and Pennzoil Platinum...
2018 Kia Soul + 2.0 GDI with 136748 miles
OCI: 2000 miles

Oil light started flickering last week. Oil checked; level was right at F on the stick. Took 'er in to the dealer...
Anecdotal, but for what it's worth--
Ran an OCI with Pennzoil Ultra Platium 10w30 in my Kia Soul Plus with the 2.0 GDI. Noted significantly increased oil consumption--64 ounces added over 5000 miles--and the oil turned jet black.
After changing the oil back to the usual Mobil Super Synthetic...
I've had excellent results using the Motorcraft rebrand of this oil. I'd confidently put it into anything that it meets specifications for, and have no worries whatsoever.
A lecture on the importance of checking the oil would be in order here. I check mine every Saturday and keep the level right at F on the stick.
Oil consumption with my 2018 Kia Soul Plus with the 2.0 GDI engine dropped after running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10W30, topped up with 2 bottles of...
My relatives aren't diligent about changing oil in outdoor power equipment other than their chain saws, and it's been at least forty years since I've seen any of it require replacement due to a worn-out engine.
Rust, metal fatigue, accidental damage, and spare parts unavailability for the rest...

This isn't anything new. I was not able to find a modestly-equipped Jetta, Altima, Corolla or Camy when new-car shopping in 2011 and 2018, and there was not one Yaris to be found anywhere.
When I inquired at about the Yaris at multiple Toyota dealerships, they all acted as though they only...
Each row of dots in the safe zone is ~2 ounces of oil.
Based on my experience, the level will read two rows higher when the engine is warm versus when it is cold. With your reading taken after sitting 45 minutes, adding 4 ounces of oil should bring it just below the Full line at normal...
