His car OE recommendation is 5w-20, he's already almost using two grades higher with 0w-30.

You have nothing to worry about. Your car is spec for 5w-20 and you're already using a very heavy 30wt oil.
You have mild mods which won't do much to the car. I would change the K&N filter to something else.

I forget to add, that the internals of the filter rattles a lot. You can hear a lot of clunking when you move the filter around. That is why I believe I got a defective filter.
