Ford 4.6 V8 Gasoline engine first oil analysis

There are a lot of things that can contribute to increased wear on a PPM/per mile basis. My friend has a 2007 F-150 FX4 with the 5.4 3v Triton. If he drives that truck consistently and doesn't run it hard or tow, the Fe wear has been as low as 7 PPM in 7k miles. He only puts 5k or so a year on...

Amsoil SS 5w-30, 125k miles, 2011 Ford Expedition EL King Ranch 4x4, 5.4L

Good to see you back, Crusher! I've been following your analyses since around 2017. Very nice results! Also, cool to see 3v with nearly 400k on it, since this engine has such a bad rep'. Bypass system definitely doing its job. 👍

    Tired of Blackstone Delays

They used to be a ton better than they are now. I sent in my first sample on a Saturday, early 2016. Results came in that Monday. Then it got to where it took a week, then 2 weeks. Now, it's 3 or more weeks. I've used them up until recently, but I'm going to be changing labs, too. I don't mind...

Black speck in FL-820S oil filter:

Just wanted to follow up with a picture after I removed the contaminated oil filter and thankfully, that stuff is still in there and didn't come out of the filter. Not sure if it would do any damage if it did, but I just want to say for anyone who runs these filters, please inspect closely for...

Black speck in FL-820S oil filter:

Will do. And yeah, I'm sure I've already ran them like this before. I'm amazed how many of these filters I have found that are contaminated with this black adhesive. I don't remember ever seeing anything like this in other brand oil filters.

Black speck in FL-820S oil filter:

Problem is it's already installed on the car by the time I noticed the picture. I guess I'll have to replace this one with a clean one. I just hope I haven't damaged anything.

Black speck in FL-820S oil filter:

You know, the crazy thing is, I have a whole 12 pack that I bought unopened, and about 3 or 4 of them have this same stuff in them after looking just now, and it’s kind of elusive where you have to shine a flashlight down into them and look around carefully to find it. I think I may have to stop...

Black speck in FL-820S oil filter:

Personally, I have never had one do that, at least not that I've seen. I heard of that happening, but I usually run shorter intervals of 4k or less usually, so I'm sure that helps.

Black speck in FL-820S oil filter:

Here's another FL-820S oil filter from like a year ago that I didn't use because of this. Same thing it looks like to me.

Thanks. The lighting is really crappy in the pic.

Black speck in FL-820S oil filter:

Hey, guys. I did an oil change yesterday on my Grand Marquis and I try to look for contamination in the filter before installing it. I snapped a pic, but for some reason I did not notice this black speck in the oil filer and I wouldn't have used it, if I did. Is this filter glue, or something...

1996 Town Car 136,606 miles - Unknown Oil - Unknown mileage

Does your air filter fit nice and square in the housing? I know those filter boxes on these cars like to warp and unfiltered air will escape past the filter. My '07 Grand Marquis had that problem, a little bit. I went to an aftermarket filter with a thicker seal and it's fine now. Box is still...

08 Tundra 5.7 Supertech High Mileage Full Syn 10W-30 5882 miles

I swear, those 5.7 engines have some of the lowest iron numbers I've seen on almost any engine made. Superb quality motor.

This particular year 5.0 had port injection only. DI came later on the 2018 models.

    2016 Ford F-150 5.0 83k PUP 5w-30 Oil mileage 6k

Nice report. My Dad had a '16 5.0. Loved it. Never burned any oil in 5k intervals for the entire 130k miles, before trade-in. One thing I've learned about V8 Modulars is some use oil and some don't. My 2007 MGM 4.6L uses 1/4 qt in 5k intervals. My '06 Town Car with the same motor, uses 0.
