Quality filter for 2017 Subaru 2.5 Ltr

If you are under warranty I would stick to the OE filter. Also, ensure you are using an oil that meets the specs in your owner manual. You have Shell ethanol-free in your area? Nice. Not so here.

    Wix Oil Filter Rating Question

I contacted Wix regarding the "Nominal Micron Rating" spec they list for some filters. For example, the 57055 has a rating of 15 microns, while the 57055XP is rated at 35 microns.. I asked what filtration efficiency the micron rating is based on, and they responded that no additional...

Should I run 5w30 in my ram hemi for towing

With the oil temps you cite, I would consider an aftermarket oil cooler provided it will not affect your warranty. Re oil viscosity, if 5W-30 is not an option in the owner manual you may be risking your warranty.

    2005 Forester

We have an 08 Forester 2.5 NA with about 90k. It gets mostly highway miles these days. I run M1 5W-30 HM with about 7k OCIs. UOAs have been good and suggest the oil can be left in service. You may find that some premium aftermarket oil filters provide finer filtration than the OE.

20wt oils, higher temperatures and oil coolers

    >User Shannow experimented with this on his Holden, where he put a thermocoupler down the dipstick tube and ran it in different gears on >the highway and was able to significantly drive up oil temperature just by using a lower gear (raising RPM). I made the same observations on my racecar...

[Cut Open] Fram ultra XG8A 10,000 miles

Fram Tough Guard is very good too, not as good as Ultra on the par with Wix, NAPA Gold ... Why do you think the TG is not as good as the Ultra? Filtering capacity, perhaps? I believe the 20-micron filtering efficiency is the same for the TG as the Ultra, at 99%. I believe the bypass opens at...
