I'm just not crazy about how these engines throw iron!

But suddenly THIS doesn't look so bad. (~105ppm, 20K miles)

Yours is still breaking in. Oil looks OK. Try it again and see what you get.

Unless you have stocked up on TXT, you won't be able to continue using it in your TDI. VW dealers are now pushing Castrol SLX 5W-30 as their 505.01 oil of choice. I haven't seen any UOAs yet but will be looking forward to seeing what the iron numbers are.

I just filled the jetta up after changing the oil over to shaeffer's 9000 and doing a complete filter change. This tank was 42.9 mpg vs the 40.5 my wife had been getting driving back and forth to work.
I'm going to pull a sample at 5,000 and 10,000 to see what is happening with the oil and engine being as this is not a "certified" VW 505.01 oil.
Funny thing about that is that the dealers I checked with are not even using the 505.01 oil either unless the customer specifies it.

Watch those iron and copper numbers drop as you roll on the miles. I just posted @ 125k versus 80k and the iron dropped in half, as did the copper.
