Rated GL-5 and is probably good stuff but what does the rating mean and will we see more like this. Are the 80w and 85w standards able to be met at the same time?

If so could we see a 0w-5w-30 engine oil soon.

If it spans 80w-90, then isn't the 85w automatically included. In other words, is this just advertising hype?

Yes I think it's their way of saying "we don't think the customer knows anything about SAE viscosity labeling so we better include the 85W as well......."

Just speculating.

On the other hand..."we don't quite meet the 80W......"

SAE doesn't allow multi-confusing labels like that anymore. Make sure the stuff isn't a decade old.

At the time that it was common, it was just pure marketing adverstising hype.

Looked like a new bottle but I didn't check the dates.

I think it could be more accurate. Mobil1 could label their products 0w-5w-10w-30. I believe the "winter" tests are not mutually exclusive the way the "operating temp" rating is. Maybe someone familiar with the standards can provide some insight.
