The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank based in Washington, DC, published a paper that many of you might find of interest. It runs 8 pages and 90 KB as a PDF file:

"Hydrogen's empty environmental promise"
by Donald Anthrop, Cato Briefing Paper No. 90, 7 December 2004

Dr. Anthrop is a retired environmental studies professor from San Jose State University.

Usually Cato's material is well written and thoughtful, even if you disagree with the conclusion. Dr. Anthrop really isn't saying much here that hasn't been said in more technical forums such as BITOG, but this is an honest look at the topic from outside the industry and inside the Beltway.

If you want to print a hard copy of this paper, you can get by with just the first 6 pages: the last two simply list other Briefing Paper titles.

By the way, Adobe Reader 8.0 is out. I have it and it seems great so far. The appearance is different and, to me, improved. If you have 7.0 and you're getting upgrade notices, you might as well go to 8.0 as the size of file, 20 MB, is the same.
