I'm sorry, I was talking about esso xd-3 when I said it was PAO and available in Canada only. I don't know for sure what VPB is I just assumed it was gpIII because I haven't heard anyone ranting and raving about it around here.

Ok thanks, yea i would like to know too..

"Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 5W40, gallon
This full synthetic engine oil is formulated with high-quality synthetic base stocks and a boosted additive system to help meet the demands of modern diesel engines that operate under a wide variety of service conditions."
Does this mean that it is a true synthetic?

From the Valvoline websites, it appears that the VPB 15W40 is not syn but the VPB Extreme 5W40 is synthetic. This is similar to the Esso XD-3 in which 0W30 and 0W40 are syn but the remaining grades are not. I have learned from a local Esso dealer that XD-3 0 weight oils were developed for use in Northern Canada.
