Well, its almost time to change the oil on my motorcycle's tranny. Fortunately, as the warranty is up, I don't have to take it to the dealership anymore!

Now, the dealer always used Yamalube Gear on the tranny, but the manual calls for 10-40 motor oil. How different is the Yamalube Gear from a motor oil, and would it be better to have Mobil 1 0-40 (if I can get it, seems that it is no longer available in Mexico) or Supertech Synthetic 5-40 instead of the Yamalube Gear?

I am not convinced there is any difference. Some of the so called gearbox oils for motorcycles meet current and past motor oil specifications. I believe I've seen SF, SG, SH on some of the major brands.

Interesting, guess you're right for the most part:

However, this is the stuff I can get in the country I live in:

It seems that we can get more products under the "Yamalube" brand than in the US.

According to Yamaha Thailand the Yamalube Gear is a 10-40 oil:

Well, SuperTech Synthetic it will get, thanks for pointing me on the right direction!

I would definitely go with a good synthetic like Amsoil or Mobil1 or Redline. You should be able to get 1 of those.

Amsoil... no

Mobil 1 2 Stroke... no

Redline... never heard of them, no

Only 2 stroke synthetics around here are Motul and IPone, and, no, I'm not paying 14 dollars per quart.

Yamalube is made by Motul...I would use either and certainly wouldn't use a car oil, no matter how good it is....if you have a wet clutch.
