Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

91 Toyota pickup w/22re 4 cyl and 5 speed, original owner. Had 278,000 trouble free miles. Did the timing chain and timing chain guides(and clutch along with valves) at 275,000 miles. Had 3000 mile OCI's the first 200,000 miles, using whatever dino oil and Fram filters. After than 5000 OCI's with QS 4x4 synthetic blend and purulator filters. Ran perfect when I sold it less than 6 months ago. I would say 90% of the mileage was racked up in the first 8 years of ownership, then used sparingly only because of my new found addiction to land cruisers.

93 Toyota land cruiser w/1FZE inline 6. Had 80,000 miles when I got it,179,000 miles when I sold it. USed amsoil 10w30 at first going 6000 OCI's and then M1 10w30 doing the same OCI's. Ran good, but burned 1 qt of oil the first 3000 miles, then 1 quart from 3-4K, 1qt 4-5K, and antother quart from 5-6K. started occuring at 150K. Always used purulator filters. Who knows what the previous owner did.

1991 Toyota land cruiser w/ 3fe inline 6. Had 60,000 miles when I purchased it, now has 161,000 miles. All trouble free, use m1 10w30 and purulators

Have also owned other land cruisers, for short periods, FJ60s and Fj40's with over 150K, but I didnt do the majority of mileage so why provide details.

I hope to report back to this thread with the wifes xterra in a few years, only had 68,000 miles. I also hope to find a 300,000 mile thread for my toyota tundra in 10 years, so I can post in that thread.

I dated a girl on and off when I was 16-18, who's father had a 4 cyl toyota pickup with over 430,000 miles on it, ran perfect. Who knows how many it finally had on it if it died, or if it died yet. It was a 1986 4x4, and I remember him telling me he did 3000 OCI's, dont know the oil he used. That truck was the reason I grew loyal to toyota. I only strayed once with the xterra, and wish I had gotten the highlander instead.
What a ramble, sorry!

1990 Ford Festiva LX 238,000 miles Castrol GTX 10W30 w/3k intervals until 223k. Was very sludged up and had a stuck HLA, as well as noisy HLAs. Ran AutoRx and its been quiet ever since. Currenty running Castrol Start-Up 10W30 w/LubeControl

1992 Mazda 323 bought new, 274,000 miles using only Supertech 5w-30 dino and Supertech filters, 3,000 mile OCI. (engine still ran great, burned no oil and passed emissions testing at this mileage)

1991 Corolla 1.6L engine 250K with PZ 10W-30 and fram filters.
1994 Prizm, same engine, currently 176K, same oil and filters. Both purchased new and stayed in the family.

1988 GMC 3/4 ton 350 cubic in.
T/B injection.

Bought with 45K miles on the OD.
Took valve covers off, cleaned all the slugde and other $%^& out of the heads I could.

Ran Amsoil Engine Flush through motor, then poured in M1 10w-30.

Since then I have replaced (all) the fluids within the truck with Synthetic.

Also went to changing the oil 2 times a yr.
Once before summer and Once before Winter
With M1 5w-30 winter 10w-30 summer
Oil filter every 3k miles. Add qt.

Mind U this is a Work Truck not a family car or family truck used on long trips, or highway driving 3/4 of the time.

Alot of Short trips-stop and go. Hunting and Fishing trips. 3/4 of the time, its Working.

I have replaced the clutch and the Alternator, so far. Tune ups are done every other yr.

I now have 278K miles on this truck, and have just changed to M1 Truck and SuV... {This motor likes this oil}.

My father has a 1990 GMC 1-ton dualy that we haul cattle with, that has used these same changes, {Mostly Highway driving} and some farm use... All synthetics throughout the truck.

It is very close to 400K. Switched it over to M1 Truck and SuV last month. Runs smoother and quieter... He loves the oil.

KNOCK ON WOOD, WE MIGHT DRIVE THESE 2 FOR 200K MORE MILES.! Ya never know.

Both these trucks are well taken care of. That has alot to do with it. But as with the internals of the motors? They both run now like the day we first drove them.

Also I want to say one thing we have never added anything to the oil that we put into the crankcase of these trucks... Just M1.

Also we use Fuel Power in the Fuel Tanks {Great Stuff}.

I'm sure any other Synthetic oil would have givin the same results.

Maybe next winter try Amsoil or GC?

1984 Honda prelude 1.8 M1 10-30 mixed 15-50 to reduce wear 95k 7-10k oci very tight no usage to 7k oci

1987 Acura legend 2.5 M1 10-30 to 120k then 15-50 M1 total miles 215k wear patterms always looked
good but engine always seeped oil started and ran fine with 15-50 down to 0 used about 1qt 4k

1994 Acura legend 3.2 V6 5-30 dino to 120k 4k oci
120 to 150k M1 5-30 usage .5 to 6k oci Trasko filter
engine wear was great as verified by oil labs
the biggest factor for low wear was the oil and a
very clean air intake system

can't believe i missed this one; anyway:

97 Camry 3.0L v6 168k miles, 4-5k OCI 10w30 dino, 10w40 dino after about 120k or so, I forget exact timing. Whatever name-brand dino is on sale. No history before 15k when I bought it (used).

93 Camry 2.2L i4 180k miles, same as above. Starting to use a bit, last time I looked it was down a bit over 1/2 qt after 4.5k when I changed the oil. Was first time I noticed it being low (if that's considered low, i don't), so I'll just be watching it. dealer maintained with religious 3k oci 10w30 dino until I bought it from in-laws at 90k. (they bought new)

moved both to 10w40 when I noticed the 93 was having some minor stem seal leakage. Has dramatically reduced leakage from what I can tell (start-up puff).

no snake-oils, no secret blends, no mystical shrines of green bottles,....

1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.1L V6 automatic 4T60E
Wife bought new & has been given Castrol GTX 10W30 at unknown intervals until about 100k miles. I'm going to have to see if her grandpa has any records.
Changed to AMSOIL at 112k miles but had an intake manifold gasket to go out (surprise!). Replaced gasket, etc.
Almost through with 2nd bottle of Auto-Rx treatment using Chevron Supreme 5W30.
Will be using synthetic again when finished.
The car doesn't burn any noticeable amount of oil in 5000-7000 miles.

1990 Honda Accord EX

184,650 miles, original motor, only slightly leaking from the pan, no other leaks.
Hard to judge consumption with leak, I would say there is some but not much at all. Plugs always look great.

All miles on conventional Castrol GTX 5w-30 except last 12k when I switched to Mobil Clean 5000 5w-30 in order to evaluate for the rest of the fleet.

Filters have run the gamit of whatever AutoZone or Hi/Lo was marketing (Deutsch, Fram, STP, Bosch, Wix)
I prefer Wix and have favored it the most.

Always have run 3k OCIs every time and still do today.

1989 Honda Accord I4 LXi auto with 175k miles. Bought from owner at 145k miles who bought it used at 90k miles. I had his dealer receipts where all maintainace was done. He had 5k OCI, I assume normal dealer bulk dino. He used it for a 60 mile highway work commute. I started using M1 5/10W-30 with OEM filters at 5-6k OCI. driven by #2 son to local community college 30 mile trip.

Valve cover off to adjust valves shortly after purchase, very clean with just varnish. I'm using M1 just to clean up (probably not needed). I'm going to start using dino in this and my Chevy Astro with 115k miles. Probably Supertech 5W-30 & Supertech filters for both at around 5k OCI.

Note - previous owner after dealer tune-up at purchase never changed plugs, cap or rotor which I did first thing along with all fluids. Vehicle runs perfect with barely noticeable usage.

1994 Camry V6 XLE just rolled over 200,000 on original everything except the water pump (no surprises there though). 4k OCI at Iffy Lube using 10w30 until 140,000 and then 5w30 HM Pennzoil (supposedly) until 180,000. Started changing it myself with 5w30HM Pennzoil when I noticed that I was paying for but not getting the HM.

Valve covers changed at 180,000 to correct a slight leak in the right bank. Currently does not use any oil between changes.

In the middle of an Auto-RX rinse, and getting ready to do another ARX clean in 500 miles.

You might add to that the fanaticism for a minimum HTHS Vis, cP @150°C of 3.5 for every engine made.

1991 Mazda Miata. 240,000 miles when sold, and 260,000 miles now (sold to a co-worker that has continued my oil and filter regimen). Mileage was mostly highway before the sale, and now is mostly city. No oil consumption between OCI's.

M1 15W-50 from 2000 miles to present day. Used Castrol 20W-50 for the 2000 mile break-in. No other oils used. OCI was 5000 miles, or 6 months.

Filters were mostly that evil Fram, before I knew any better. Filters now are Mazda.

1997 Mazda Miata, 120,000 miles, current daily driver for wife. Same oil, and OCI as above. Mix of city and highway useage. Used M1 15W-50 even for break-in.

Successful use of M1 15W-50 may have a lot to do with the Houston area climate.

Currently my oldest car a 1997 Buick with 3.8 V6 only has 125,000 miles on it. As long as I run 10W30 or thicker it does not use any oil at all between oil changes! If I run 5W30 it uses 1/2 quart a month reguadless of miles. From 40,000-109,000 it was feed M1 10W30 prior to 40,000 it was serviced by origanal owner and unkown to me. From 109,000 to 125,000 I have been careing for it and I have tried a number oil in it. It definately prefers thick 30Wt. and 40Wt. oils!

Wife's previous car:

1989 Accord LXi 2-door coupe. (4-banger)

had 178 k miles when we sold it. NO internal engine work. Didn't use any oil in 3-4k OCI's.

Wife bought car with about 25k on it, I think.

mostly 10/30 dino and probably fram filters at quick-lube places. (But very probably Castrol GTX, because the one place my wife used had only Castrol)
Got rid of the car due to bad motor mounts and front cv-joints. Ran fine otherwise.

1997 Neon, 2.0 DOHC traded in almost a year ago with about 155K miles on it. I bought it used with about 40K. It lived on a few brands of 5W-30 dino changed every 3K: Havoline, Shell, Esso, dealer bulk. Filters were mostly ST or Mopar (I suspect those were Frams) when the winter made it necessary to get the oil changed at the dealer. For the 115K that I had the car the valve cover was never off (yes, that includes the head gasket!) and the engine was clean and ran great when traded.

Of course as well as this regimen seemed to work, now after reading BITOG for a while I have run nothing but M1 and have two cases of XD-3 on order.

1991 Jeep Cherokee I-6. I use mobil dino 10w-30. I have racked up 789,546 miles to date. Traveling sales will do this to a vehicle! Original motor, burn about a quart every 3000 miles. But I change it @ 3000 miles anyway, have since new. Countless other repairs to my Jeep, but the motor is original.
