I emailed Peak at their website asking which of their many coolants was G-05 (really..they have like 8 different kinds of coolant). This was the reply..

"Thanks for your e-mail. Yes, the PEAK GLOBAL LIFETIME COOLANT is
compatible the G-05. G-05 is a name of a formulation used in VW/Audi
cooling systems. PEAK GLOBAL LIFETIME meets or exceeds the G-05
recommended change interval of vehicles requiring G-05 coolant.

Sincerely,

PEAK Tech Dept."

OK...it's only a wee misinformation - I thought VW/Audi were spec'ing G12/G12+ in their newer cars. Anyway, notice they didn't exactly say that their Global Lifetime Antifreeze IS G-05, just that it's compatible, meets or exceeds, blah blah blah.

Why is it so hard to find a coolant that prominently displays G-05 on it's label? Can anyone confirm if the Peak Global Lifetime IS G-05. Would you actually leave this stuff in your car for it's 'lifetime'?

....amazing

If Peak have MSDS information available on their website, compare that to the following compositional information for Zerex green and G-05, pasted from their respective MSDS.

Hi

G-05 is a Hybrid OAT in that it actually has some silicates.

Since silicated Green is likely only available now as "Old shelf stock", you can have limited choices regarding silicates.

Anything you choose, just make sure the system is completely free of old coolant.

G-05 is made by Zerex ( Valvoline-Ashland ) and can be found under the labels of FORD Gold and Chrysler Long Life.

Iain thanks for posting the chemical contents.

Do you have the chemical contents of Havoline Dex-cool and Prestone Dex- compatible?

Sure would be nice to have the ingredients of the different brands in one place.

Thanks
Ron

Hi

Just go to walmart and compare.

G-05 is silicated and does not have 2-eha.

Prestone was nice enough to email the ingredients for Prestone Extended Life.

What is (Neodacanoic Acid, Sodium Salt 31548-27-3)and do all Dex-clones have it?

SECTION 2: PRODUCT COMPONENTS
HAZARDOUS COMPONENTS CAS# PERCENT EXPOSURE LIMITS
Ethylene Glycol 107-21-1 80-95 None Established-OSHA PEL
(aerosol) 100 mg/m3 Ceiling ACGIH TLV

Diethylene Glycol 111-46-6 0-5 None Established
OSHA PEL, ACGIH TLV

Non-Hazardous Ingredients >1%
Water 7732-18-5
2-Ethyl Hexanoic Acid, Sodium Salt 19766-89-3
Neodacanoic Acid, Sodium Salt 31548-27-3

Sodium 2-ethyl hexanoate is common to all Prestone-made dexclones and Prestone's own GM licensed DEX-COOL(tm) formulation*. I don't know whether sodium neodecanoate (when these organic salts are hydrated in aqueous solution, they become their respective acids which your post named) is a specific formulated ingredient or an inevitable byproduct of 2-EH synthesis.

*Check the backs of the Prestone DEX-COOL(TM) silver-gray jugs, Prestone Extended Life in the yellow jugs, and WalMart's SuperTech Extended Life in the blue jugs. They all list identical ingredients. All antifreeze concentrate formulations are about 92% glycol and 5% de-ionized water - which doesn't leave much wiggle room for varying the corrosion protection ingredients' recipe.

Ray I use both acids and the acid form is the more common and easiest to work with.

2 ethyl hexanoic acid and neo decanoic acid are common for auto coolants and use in industrial metalworking fluids as corrosion inhibitors when nuetralized to a salt with a base such as pottasium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide or even
any of the various amines such as tea or mea.
