Here in Japan, carb cleaner cost $9. I can get 4 times that amount in brake cleaner for half the price. For simply cleaning stuff like bike chains and the likes, would brake cleaner suffice?

Same here. Brake cleaner works just fine for degreasing and cleaning. Just stay away from the chlorinated kind, because it's rather deadly.

As soon as I learned the Kanji for chlorine, I will check into that, or just keep the spray outside and the nozzle out of my nose

Checked out the Kanji on the cans I bought, didn't see it.

Here is a pic of the comparison

The cans on the left are 576 and the can on the right 989.

About to try them out on my bike chain

I use to use break cleaner to clean all kinds of car parts and guns. Back home.
Over here in Japan I never know whats in them so I use it out side, but never in a runing engine.
That is a lot of yen for break cleaner, are they the realy long cans that are like 1/2m long?
Also,
I bought some soldering flux over here, and it is super toxic I never had a soldering flux that made my eyes and nose burn so bad from the fumes.
