I was working on a garbage disposer today, and accidentally dropped a 1/4 in. ratchet in a tub full of water. I disassembled it, dried everything off, and sprayed the internals with Mobil 1 spray lube (in order to displace any remaining moisture, among other things).
Will Mobil 1 lube be enough, or does this application call for something heavier?
Thanks.

An S&K ratchet rebuild kit comes with a tube of grease. Just use some brake cleaner to rid the mobil spray lube and lube it with any wheel bearing grease you have on hand.

they don't need much lube as they have hardened steel parts inside and don't operate at high speeds or temps. I do find they operate much smoother with a dab or two of thick grease (#2 or #3) in them.

ah get 'er dun....

You probably went above and beyond by disassembling (don't get me wrong - you done good!

) the rat-chit.....but a light grease is what I've seen.

Most rachet mechanism's work best with a dab of grease to create some drag on the internals! You will see what I mean when you try it next time!
