Ok, here are the stats and such for my second oil analysis, along with the first analysis for comparison. The car - 2003 Jetta TDI Automatic. 1/2qt make-up oil added during both intervals. VW OEM air/fuel/oil filters for first interval, Mann air/fuel/oil filters installed for second interval. 6oz of PowerService every fill up for first interval, 1oz of Primrose Powermaster 405 added every fill up for second interval.

Analysis by OAI

Si went from 2 to 5, still ok. I'm thinking this is because of the air filter change (introducing contamination when opening filter box?)

Na went from 1 to 5, any reason why?? I'm thinking it's still ok though.

The oil thickened up a bit though, and I'm not sure why. If anything, this interval was much easier on the oil than the previous one (not as many short trips, warmer weather, etc). Could the Primrose fuel additive have anything to do with this??

Overall, I'm happy with these numbers, and the wear metals seem to be heading in the right direction. Help me read between the lines here

All your numbers are headed in the right direction. Thanks for posting them. Are you going to do a 40k analysis?

Don't the fully synthetic HDOs seem produce bigger metal wear numbers per 1000 miles. But resist aging better on the oxidation / nitration tests. Not significantly bigger numbers but marginally bigger numbers. When compared to good mineral HDOs like Delo 400 or Delvac 1300.

Looks like the TDI is still breaking in somewhat. Do they not actually require a good 60-90k miles before the rings fully seal and they achieve peak compression/fuel economy?

TBN is worse in the first sample likely due to the effects of winter, as compared to summertime operation. Based on the numbers, once you are out of warranty, you can look forward to at least a 15k mile drain interval without additional filtration.

My 30k analysis numbers were a bit better (Iron, Chromium, Aluminum and Coppoer) then these, but I put more mileage on my car (10k every 3-4 months vs 6) and mine is a 5 speed.

I have to say though, do not hesitate to drive your TDI "firmly" (once fully warmed up). I am very easy on mine until the temp gauge has been at 180 for about 5-10 minutes, then I drive it "firmly". I shift around 3000 RPM and in 2nd-5th gear I use full boost (pedal to the floor) when traffic permits. Let me just say that I always expect bad oil analysis numbers because I feel like I am abusing my TDI by my hard driving, but for some reason I have had 2 10k (30k and 40k) analysis that have been spectacular. If you go alittle farther down on the board you will find it, I am too lazy to link!

TBN is low for 10k mile OCI IMO. In my 2000 TDI my TBN was still above 8 with 10k mile OCI's using Amsoil 15w-40 and Amsoil 5w-40.

Dude, we get it. You have a woody for Amsoil.
