Here is my latest analysis. The oil used was delvac 1. I have done two other analyses on this engine as well, onewith a 50/50 mix of delvac 1 and delvac 1300, the oldest with 100% delvac 1, Isame as this newest one. Add up was about 1 qt due to leaks (pre-existing, not caused by use of synthetic oil).

A good thing to note is that the first two intervals had Fe wear at a rate of ~6ppm/1000 mi. This latest one, despite a longer OCI, and more soot loading, had only ~4.75ppm/1000mi. Perhaps the change to delvac 1 oil only has begun to help a bit (?)

All in all, the engine didnt load the oil with as much soot as Id have guessed. Ill probably keep the 6k mile OCI with this oil.

These engines will load up the soot before the TBN is depleted.

You have a fair amount of soot; given the # of miles on this sample ....

I'd recommend using an effective diesel fuel additive like Fuel Power, Primrose, Stanadyne, Amsoil diesel fuel concentrate, etc on a regular basis, or perhaps even biodiesel ie, B10 or B20 if you can find it. The oil is still in excellent shape and there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to run at least 10,000 mile, oil/filter change intervals with this engine/oil combo.

I don't know much about the numbers but your 50/50 mix looks pretty good too. I was thinking of this because after longer highway trips the oil pressure at idle is a bit lower on my DuraMAx when I run Delvac-1 alone. Not in the danger zone mind you but kind of bothers me for some reason. I live in southern california so cold weather is usually not a problem for me. Any thoughts?
