Here is my latest oil sample. The oil went 11,600 miles/1 year. I did switch the filter and add 3 qts of make up oil at the 6,000 mile mark. Also ran FP for the last month. Then I developed a leak and had dye added to the engine oil to find it. Blackstone noticed an increase in sodium, but they think it might be attributed to the dye added.
I usually use Terry's analysis but since this came out due to a maintenance issue I was not sure what the results would be or whether they would be skewed.
Here are the results with blackstones comments:
SEAN: Nothing too unusual showed up in this sample. Sodium may be from the dye you added, so
we are not going to get too excited about it. It often shows anti-freeze contamination, so we will keep an eye on it, but hopefully it will disappear next sample. Wear doesn't look too bad for an oil with 11,600 miles on it. The iron level is normal, though both chrome and copper are slightly higher than we like to see. Iron is really the only element that should increase when an oil is run longer. In any case, check back at 8,000-10,000 miles on the next oil to monitor sodium.
