Hi,

I'm looking for an alternative synthetic ATF that's compatible to VW's Pentosin G-052-162-A2, which is used in most Audi/VW auto trannies currently.

How do I go about tracing down a compatible fluid? Mobil Synthetic, Redline or Amsoil...

Thanks...

Quaker States Multi-vehicle ATF meets the Esso LT71141 specification which is the VW G 052 162 A1 and A2 spec.

here is a link if it's OK to post this data:

This is strictly to show the specifications that the Multi-vehicle ATF meets.

If it gets deleted then feel free to email me for the link.

My apologies but the data is written in German.

EDIT: I tried to look at the U.S. data sheet to verify that the products had the same product number but this information was not available.

**** good question! The coolant is another mystery, G-12?

I've got a 99' VW Pasat w/ 110,000 mi. and original fluid. 3 dealers said to leave it alone! Just gave it to my Dad and hoping it will go for a while. Drove it today and seems to drive and shift as it did new.

Any recommendations?

The G-12 coolant is made by Pentosin, so is the ATF. I dropped, cleaned the tranny oil pan and replaced the filter and ATF on my NB 6000 miles ago. A link for your reference: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1064342

I'm just looking for a "true" compatible synthetic ATF since the VW-spec isn't. So far, Redline said their ATF D4 should work.

in those instances I find Redline to be very helpful either by phone or email, Dave in tech is very helpful.

You can find the specs on redline at their website, things like viscosity, pour point, viscosity index, flash point. If you have the same specs for the vw fluid then you can do an easy comparison on fluids.

FWIW I had same problem trying to find a replacement semi-synthetic ATF for my BMW's permanent ATF. The only two alternatives have been mentioned above. Quaker State and Pennzoil have a "multi-vehicle ATF" that is semisynthetic and Redline's D4 ATF works great!

The info showed that QS Multi-vehicle ATF works with Audi/VW from years '82-2000. Unfortunately, mine is a 2001. Thanks though...

Help... anyone?
