Yes! Castrol Syntec 75W-90 that I used is fully synthetic.

I had to replace a leaking axle seal on my mom's 1994 Ford Explorer, so I was forced to change the rear diff oil. Truck has 219k miles on it. I last changed the diff oil about 75k miles ago.

Out: mix of Napa brand conventional 80w-90 and Valvoline Synpower 75w-90 (I didn't buy enough oil, so I used some leftover Synpower to top it off last time)

In: More Napa brand conventional 80w-90 (I bought enough this time).

About 1.5 Quarts Out - Factory Fill

About 1.5 Quarts In - Red Line 75W85 GL-5

Front Diff + Xfer Case / Rear Diff. (Fluid was fairly clear, smelly as usual. Magnets on both had a decent amount of goop/shavings. Anti-seized the hex bolts.)

Hi Sam Julier,
I own the same year Volvo wagon. I believe the manual states diff fluid at 500-1000 miles then there is no interval after that. 20,000 mile OCI refers to the ATF. Nevertheless, diff fluid is inexpensive and easy to change.

2017 Tahoe 4WD … Changed FF in both differentials and transfer case at one year old / 17k miles
The rear fluid and transfer case looked pretty good with both magnets fairly well loaded … the front end magnet could not hold another spec and that's where the silver fluid below came from:

On my 1993 GMC K1500 rez truck. Out was unknown. The RTV on the pan looked factory but at over 373,000km, the gear oil was not as black as I anticipated. It is an open diff so no clutch packs. It has a mild leaking pinion seal.

In: Co-op Sonic gear oil SL, 80w140. I have about 10 litres left in the pail after using it on my 1500 twice and once on the 3500. I also used up 1/3 quart of Amsoil 75w90 that was sitting around since the fall of 2013. The RTV came out nicely and I used a Fel-Pro blue paper gasket.

06 Infiniti FX45 Front ant Rear diffs. 180K on car, 60K on gear oil. Rear came out looking almost new, front was dark - I suspect due to the heat of being mechanically attached to the engine. Also center transfer case, came out smelling as bad as it did going in.

M1 gear oil front and rear, M1 ATF in the transfer case.
