Having trouble locating tires for my 78 1/2 ton stepside. The tires on the front are 235 50 15s. Is this a discontinued size? Can't find them anywhere. I'd like to put the same size it has on it since it works. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The only tires I can find in that size are the Toyo Proxes R888R, which is a race track tire.

You may have to use 225/60-15 instead.

I think the first step is to check the wheel size. Generally wheels are marked on the back side. You are looking for something like: 6JJ

Stock 1978 C10's came with …… ah ….. well, Tire Rack says 225/75R15 102LI, but Tire Guides says GR78-15's on 6" wheels. The equivalent to a GR78-15 is P215/75R15 (more or less).

A 235/50R15 has an allowable rim width range of 6 1/2" to 8 1/2". So we really need to know what the wheel size is.

But as a suggestion, try going up in aspect ratio. Not only are the 235/50-15's a bit small for the truck (load carrying capacity wise), but they are also small in diameter. I would suggest a 235/70R15 as it is quite plentiful and much closer to the original diameter.

Not a lotta 15" tire sizes left. I have a '65 4-4-2 with 7.75 14 tires and a '68 L36 Corvette with something like 8.25 15.

I bought it this way. It's lowered yes. 295 50 15s on the back. I can find plenty of those.

That tire size is extremely popular

Your last option when tires get too hard to find - - is to change wheels

I was running a 275/50/15 all the way around on my 83 Silverado for the longest time but since BFG discontinued them i can;t find them except in a race tire, my new setup is a 245/60/15 on the front and 295/50/15 on the back

Nice truck! Yea I'll probably have to do the same thing. BF Goodrich is what's on the front now.

You are probably going to need new rims, and should consider moving to a 16 or 17" tire. You could move to something like a 255/60-17 and still be close to the original speedometer calibration.

No kidding. I swapped my Caddy to 17's for that reason. My father in law is not sure how long before he has to do the same with his Pinto (Mustang 10-holes) and his Trans Am (15x8 Snowflakes).
