Hi guys! New member with a question.
Got an old Gehl HL4400 skid loader in need of a hydraulic oil change.
Book calls for Type F ATF.
Wondering if there's a better alternative available in the 40 years since this machine was new.
Use this to move snow and feed livestock, so cold weather performance is a factor.
Any thoughts?

Almost any hydraulic fluid will work in your Gehl skid-steer.

Any ATF - - Dexron, Type F, etc. will be fine.

DO NOT USE the cheap "303" oil in the yellow bucket - it has no additives.

R&O fluid is the next step up from that, and is just "barely" acceptable, but should be fine.

Atwood's farm and ranch around here actually sells "generic ATF" in 5 gallon buckets, and goes on sale down near the "303" price range occasionally.

To answer your question:
"Better"?

Yes, as in "more expensive", you can pay all kinds of extra money - - - but not get any benefit from it.

Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard is way better but you probably wont notice any difference except the $$$
