Everybody suffers from that. .. To varying extents. ... I see it in myself sometimes in such mundane tasks as choosing when to drive through or try to beat a storm. We all do it. Any task, we want to beat the odds & "win". .. For example, engineers have made bad decisions to get a product out the door On Time. On Time performance is a lot of pressure.

I remember there was something about publishing each airline's On-Time Performance rating. At the time I heard that, I remember thinking, hey, they need to exclude two things off that rating:
1. Weather related delays,
2. Maintenance (MEL broke) delays.
..... because you don't want airlines pushing through weather, etc.
