Why did you buy a custom exhaust/muffler?

I put a OBX 4-2-1 header on an old 94 Toyota Corolla because it was cheaper than buying a factory cast exhaust manifold . Original one cracked at 140k miles.

I'd buy one of those exhaust systems just for the 304 steel they use, so it won't rust

Regular aftermarket mufflers/exhaust systems only last 2-3 years before rusting out

Sound.
Went with a Badlandz electric exhaust cutout on my 2013 F150 5.0

Love the OEM on the highway.
Everywhere else, or when my wife drives, the exhaust is dumped.

I have non-stock exhaust systems on five vehicles. They all offer less weight, more efficiency, more power, and yes to varying degrees, more sound. None are obnoxiously loud.

I used to buy aftermarket stainless exhaust, including good headers for any V8 vehicle (usually trucks) I owned. Mostly for performance and sound. Better looking was a plus.

I would be less likely to do it now, and I may currently be driving my last V8. I don't particularly care for the sound of most I4 or I/V6 engines, and I probably don't have a V12 in my future.
