Unkown mileage or oil, off a friends 2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV. Knowing her she probably ran it for a while though, the oil was about halfway between the low and full level on the dipstick.

This filter is a bit bigger than the 15208AA12A I use on my STI, makes me wonder if I can use this one as well. Probably close to the 7317 size. Funny how the 2.5L 300+ HP engine gets a smaller filter than the 2.0L 148hp engine. The only thing I can think of is trying to keep the filter as far away as possible from the insanely hot exhaust manifold, there isn't a ton of clearance as it is. I've touched it a few times when removing the filter and it will melt my gloves in a flash. The Crosstrek had a refreshingly cool top mounted oil filter.

Put back on the same filter and PP 0w20.

Drained and filled her manual transmission and rear diff fluids as well with Castrol 75w90, I think it was the first time either has been serviced with 105,000kms on the car. There was a good amount of metal mush on the magnetic plugs.

I've never been a fan of the USDM OEM Subaru Fram Honeywell filters. I've always used JDM spec oil filters on my Subarus. For STI models, I highly recommend Mazda RX8 Tokyo Roki filters. Part number N3R1-14-302

If you don't like the USDM cardboard Frams, consider the Wix 57055

Yes, I know they're not actually cardboard

Does that Mazda Roki can use the same high bypass spec that Subaru uses now? Does it use a silicone ADBV?
