I tried to talk myself out of it for a week but eventually stupid side of my brain succeeded and I resigned myself to shell out bazillion bucks from the checking account. At least I got my "boss" to drive it before finally allowing myself to give the green light but as everybody who is married knows that only makes very slight dent in the future "I told you so". When I started thinking, heck that is only extra $11K for the performance model, I knew my goose was cooked.
By the way, Tesla does use every single trick as any car dealer would use, including making only the performance model available for test drive. I first drove long range rear wheel and I found that it was not as fast as I was expecting, at least on the congested road during the test drive. So when I went back when the roads were somewhat free, the only cars available for test drive was the performance version. I was told that in the "chill mode", it will simulate the long range rear wheel. Alas, that was not the case. Once I asked to put it back in to performance mode, there was no more going back to the other variant.
And then in a week, the price dropped by 5K on the performance version and that was the straw which broke my resolve NOT to purchase it.
