A few years back, I soaked a carb in mean green degreaser. It did amazing at eating everything off the inside and outside carb.

A year ago, I did the same thing on a OPE carb, same amazing results

I decided to go through my Mercarb due to running 2 year old fuel through it and the fact it hasn't had new gaskets for probably 20 years.

Here's the results of a 24hr soak in MEAN GREEN DEGREASER.

After pictures,

Carb is still wet

The dirt in bowl went away with compressed air

The major build up on the throttle body is gone. Raw cast iron is all that's left

Pretty good trick starting from Aluminium.

But seriously...looks to do a good job, (though it wasn't very dirty to begin with). If I could get it I'd try it.

Since I can't, I use brake fluid, which also does quite a good job, and (used) is free.

Ducked... the throttle body on the Rochester 2G is cast iron.

leroyd... did the mean green hurt the gold chromate finish at all? If not, I will definitely need to try this. Thanks for sharing.

I used a coffee can of stale gas to soak Ford 2150 2barrel bits. Blew out the passages with carb cleaner. Used bits from 3 carbs and a NAPA rebuild kit to build a jeep carb that got 15 MPG. I'm on my 3rd Lawn Boy carb cleaning. Same same. 2 runners so far.

PS on BITOG I have heard about guys cleaning parts in the dishwasher.

Wal-Mart has it for $5/gallon. If anything, put it in a spray bottle, try it around the house, clean your hands, objects, bicycles, car wheels, in the washer to clean greasy rags...

This was an '88 Grand Wagoneer with an AMC 360 V8 The carb that was on it was dirty and the throttle shaft holes in the base were wallowed out making for a crummy idle. It was filthy and generally bad. $40 '80s bux a week to lug the goons around in gas. After a tune up and the carb work, I got 15 MPG

It did not.

Same with the qjet I redid 5 yes ago. And it soaked for 3 days because I had to dilute the mean green. ( Didn't have enough)

I think the local Ace carries that stuff, and I've heard that ORIGINAL(not reformulated) Pine-Sol works as a carb soak. Clorox sells it as Lestoil.

I gotta rebuild a Briggs carb soon, so I'll try either to get the passages cleaned.
