Of this happening.. One filter is for our Chevy Express 4l80e and the other for our 2000 Dodge Dakota. Should be easy to remember at least! The parts guy had to double check the numbers.

You can often see numbers for front / rear or left / right parts deliberately labeled non-sequentially to avoid confusion.
These filters are for two different cars so that wouldn't be a problem....but everyone handling the paperwork would take notice.

Years ago i was out riding for the day on my Harley. I had stopped to take a break at a small store up in the Mountains. Another guy on a bike parked next to me. His license plate was exactly the same as mine but the next consecutive number.
The two Volvos in my signature have consecutive plate numbers from VA.
