The baseline viscosity @ 100C for this oil is 9.7 cst, so the 9.5 cst reading obtained in this test is close enough, IMO.

I'm surprised that this oil has such as high TBN, as I thought SM/GF-4 M1 5w-30 has a TBN below 10.

I am doing a Castrol Syntec test and wanted to get a VOA. Being that I am, I filled the crank case, ran it about 20 miles or so, then drained it. I plan on running it after a fresh fill of CS. This semi-VOA is what it is from. I wanted something to compare to my longer run of Castrol Syntec.

Comments: The TBN for this oil was 11.2, a normal reading for a gasoline engine oil. In used oil, we don't worry about the TBN until to drops down to 1.0 or less. The viscosity was in the 5W/30 range when checked @ 210F. Insolubles showed up at trace levels, which isn't unusual for a new oil and is something the oil filter will easily remove. Just traces of metals present and the oil was found to be free of any moisture. Molybdenum, phosphorus, and zinc are anti-wear additives. Calcium is a detergent/dispersant additive. This oil should serve your engines needs nicely.
