Spector, I missed that one but I think what you are seeing is the limitation on this kind of analysis. The quality/type of the base oil can't really be determined by VOA.

If any of you all want to do your own test to find what your looking for you can email me [email protected] and maybe I could send you a sample at your cost so you can run your own tests. I did keep the containers of each sample I pulled. mikeyoilnutt

It appears Redline is not using the borate esters in this weight class. Interesting.

And they cut down on their Si anti-foaming additive as well.

My VOA I sent to Schaffers had 0 Si. It was supposed to be of 10w40 but it had over 5000ppm Ca. So something was goofy there. I think they had an error of some sort along the line.

And my UOA only had 3ppm which was must have been dirt then.

They must be using something else? What else is there? Although seemed like everytime I checked the oil there was some bubbles on dipstick. And it wasn't overfilled.
