My Suzuki manual says to use SF or SG oil,in preferably 10W-40 grade, but then gives a table of suitable grades dependent on ambient temperatures.
I have recently come across some Mobil Premium 25W-40 SF/CC rated oil at a super low price. Is this suitable for my wet clutch 4 stroke double overhead cam 400cc single cylinder off-roader?
My OCI's are every 10 hours, filter every other.
I recall reading on this forum that the narrower the viscosity spread, the less VI's,the better resistance to shear breakdown. Our ambient temperatures are always between 5 and 30 deg C,and always above 10 deg C when I ride!
Also,is this 25W-40 suitable for the tranny of my sons KX65 2-stroke,same conditions?
What was the difference in test ctiteria between SF and SG grades ?

25W-40 is an unfamiliar weight for me. I would imagine the differences were less than the differences between a PCMO and an HDEO at the time.

Given the described engine application, an off-road, 4-stroke wet-clutch bike operated in +5C temps should not have a cold-start problem, often...

Any Premium 40W should suffice for 10 hours, IMHO.

Cheers!
