Bike tranny question ..

I told a friend today that when riding around town I like to shift from 1 to 3rd then accelerate and shift up to fifth.
now he thought this might be hars on the tranny ...any thoughts????

Bike 1990 Honda Pacific coast ..800 cc "V" twin 38,000 miles.

No harsher than hitting every gear on the way up IMHO. Since the power is disconnected (I assume you use the clutch?) the shift drum will move freely. Now if you experience a bit of "clunking" on the second shift up (2nd to 3rd or 4th to 5th) your revs might be dropping too much in between the whole shift. Blip the throttle after the 1-2, 3-4 shifts and it should smooth the transition.

Won't hurt the tranny a darn bit. A friend of mine does the same thing on his Yammy FJR1300. He basically only uses 1st, 3rd, and 5th.
