Unlikely. KV@40C has little to do with differential operation. Ive measured my own at about 80C after a good highway run. What would 40C visc have to do with anything?
Simple gifts is right, and I was wrong however. They are simply siding with what the OEM says is the proper lube. They don't want to be held responsible if it blows up after they said to put it in. Its lawyer safe.
Keep in mind the only reason it would blow up after putting in synth is because it was already on the way out.
