When it goes on clearance, stock up on it because in 10 years time, it'll be the thickest oil around.

This is an OE oil weight you know.

You can probably use 20W-50 in a 0W-16 engine, no problem.

It is stated that it's for
* fuel economy
* exhaust emissions
* road safety

However as you pointed out, there's probably more real drivers
* Artificially stimulate domestic car production
* keep the fleet on the road "modern", reflecting the economics/advanced state of the nation.

Oz had ridiculous "grey" import laws at the behest of local car manufacturing, wonder if that will change now. NZ thrives on ex Japanese cars...Samoa even changed the side that they drive on to better facilitate it.

What vehicles are calling for a 0W-16 oil ?

How about the 2018 Toyota Camry?
