Can I delay this oil change up to say, 8500 miles?

You have a low fuel dilution here, since the light and clear outer ring (beyond the irregular edge) is very narrow. Fuel is the clear outer layer, almost indetectable in this sample (it is below average, witch is good, also). You need to check head gasket, or other water source, IMO .

Thank you for your inputs.
Agree with you fuel dilution is low ... in this EFI engine.

On irregular jagged edge, I was concerned too it could be glycol/water related and had been monitoring coolant level and found to be normal and leak free.

Besides numerous blot spots of this Quartz syn blend above 5000 miles exhibiting this phenomenon (below 5000 miles ok), I have another sample of Petronas Syntium 3000 full synthetics 5W40 (C3, SN....... http://www.mymesra.com.my/Passenger_Car_Motor_Oil-@-Syntium_3000_5W-40.aspx) in a N Aspirated Port Injection Optima K5 2.0L without coolant leaks at 6000 miles demonstrating similar irregular jagged edge as well.

Similar irregular edge applies in a Duron XL syn blend HDEO 0W30 CH4 SJ in a Nissan carburreted engine at 6800 miles blot spot locally.

Does irregular edge encircling the 'centre zone' only reflects coolant leaks and not otherwise ? IDK.

Keep going on ..... towards 8500 miles OCI, is it ok?

Comments most welcome ...

Well that's a very nice looking spot but not very much science involved there or data. A UOA is going to tell you a lot more.

looks normal to me ...... and going on.

Dear Mod, not sure if this is the proper forum... pl move if need be.

Why delay . You are not going to make / save your first million by delaying an oil change .

I told one of our grand daughters ( while lecturing about oil / filter changes ) that changing your oil / filter is kind of like flushing a toilet . Would you wish to delay that ?

Yep, it's inching towards the previous OCI of 10.3k miles .... and am looking up for the emergent centre zone of opaque black spot.
Btw, this from SoJ,among others forms as a basis of my assessment of oil-condition in question .

Total Quartz 7000 Energy 10W40 SL A3B4 blend in Toyota K3VE 1.3L,
Euro II 500 ppm RON95 gasoline,

9320 miles, 96 hr blotter ...... and out prior to the occassion of Chinese New Year.

In..... Shell Helix Ultra 5W40.

15000Km with this oil might be a bit extended...what do you think?
I've used this oil but that was in my diesel, and it never made it very far before becoming more noisy, but this is absolutely not comparable.

How do you like the SHU so far?

Oops, sorry.
Local practice here for a semi synthetic is 6000 - 8000 km OCI. So , yes I had been pushing beyond.
I'm of the opinion this 15000 km blotter is just fine, the previous oil change was 16600 km for Quartz 10W40.

On Shell Helix Ultra 5W40:

5575 km blotter
and 10099 km blotter
and going .....

Agree with you that it looks good, as there is absence of darkened centre zone perimeter ring.
A cheapo Euro 2.50 with Japanese-sounding name.

There are guy running SHU 5W30 at 10060 km with equally impressive blotter spot,
.... and going ...

Hi Popsy,

As pointed out by Ohle_Manezzini some 2 years back, I'm of the opinion that it's a phenomenon of significant presence of moisture content related to highly humid ambient in Malaysia and oil use beyond some 4000 miles or so.

If my interpretation is valid, then blotter spots in low humidity temperate Europe may not encounter this ' peculiarity' , IDK.
