The 5 quart jugs ring up at $8.45 at some AA's but not all. I haven't seen any 5 quart jugs ring up for $1.65.

And they ring up at $17.75 around here; so it's very regional.

Is QS changing the packaging?
Or, maybe this is to clear out the dexos1 stuff to make room for dexos1 Gen 2 bottles?

That's what I assume. Most of the parts counter folk don't even know about it. It's a 50/50 shot of having the cashier ring it up without batting an eye versus their eyes popping out of their sockets and wanting to contact a manager to make sure they don't get in trouble LOL

I think the massive discount on Xw20 weights here in FL are due to low sales. Actually spoke briefly with a guy at a NAPA who said he had heard about some of the Ford engines, I think the Coyote, failing due to people using Xw20 weight oils in them. When I said I was putting 5w20 in a Toyota engine, he said ah that thing will last forever lol

I went to an AAP in Manteo,NC today and the ONLY Quaker State oils they had were a jug of HM 10w-30 and a jug of conventional 10w-30. Store clerk told me that AAP will not be carrying QS any longer.

When one of the counter clerks called her manager, it sounded like he told her that QS is being cleared because it isn't selling.

I went to a farther AAP and got 20 quarts of UD, I left about 60+ quarts of QSAD for others though. The cashier was really friendly, and I also asked the manager if it was okay that I buy some. She said it's discontinued and it could be they won't carry the brand any longer or if there's a product update. She said the clearance price could change (go down) weekly because the manufacturer won't reimburse the store if they send it back after it's discontinued. So it's better to just blow them out the door at insanely low prices before new updated inventory gets there or for other brands to fill the gap in the shelves. It'll eventually go down to a price where the AAP policy won't let them be sold anymore for some liability reason. At that point any existing stock will have to be destroyed (dumped into the recycling tank).

I hit three AAPs this Saturday.

Location #1 had a single 5 qt jug of QSUD in 10w30 and four clear quart bottles of QSUD 10w30, with a 2011 mfr. date. I bought all of it, 13 bucks and change.

Location #2 had three jugs of QSUD 5w30 for 1.65 each, but were 27.99 on the shelf. The sales guy seemed unhappy that I knew about the unadvertised price and that I bought all three remaining jugs.

Location #3 had no idea what I was talking about and their QS products were all normal sale price.

These three stores are within 15 miles of each other in Maryland.

Had a long day of driving so I hit up a few random AAP's

Most of the red stickers are up, so the oil is getting cleared out.

Found two AAP's with some QS oil left. Think I got 26 qts of varying grades and types for around $8. I put it all in my trunk, which is full of oil now, so I can't keep track of my individual scores anymore. I think that's when "you know" LOL

The last AAP I stopped by had three 5qt 5w30 QSUD jugs, but they rang up for $24! Obvious pass. Did find out one of the counter persons has a really nice 300ZX like mine, so had a good chat even though their QS stock was mostly depleted. Still got 3qt QSUD 5w20 and 2qt QSAD 5w20 for $2. Just mentioning this part because although it's fun to score cheap oil, I've actually found a handful of very pleasant AAP counter people along the way.

The rebate center clearly states the max rebate per household is $21 (3 jugs or 15 qts of QSUD). Not sure how people are getting bigger rebates by buying oil beyond that amount....unless they're getting some for "relatives" or "neighbors."

QS rebate page

Note that the QS rebate works differently than the Pennz Plat ($2/qt). You have to buy the QS products in 5 qt increments to get the most benefit. If you say got 9 qts....you'd only get a rebate on 5 of them. Buy in qty of 5 to keep it simple. It's possible you could combine receipts to reach 5 (mailing them in) but it might lead to confusion.

Do these AAP purchases qualify for the rebate? It isn't an option on the drop down menu, they simply list "other."
