So, I went over to local AAP for few things for dads new Dodge Ram 2500 pickup. Got those items and spied a jug of QSUD 10w30 red tagged at $4! smile

3 November 2016 quarts of QSUD 0w20 at $1.00! Amazing score, and nabbed last two PEAK 15w40 gallons at blow me away price of $3.25. So for lil' under $15~ I'm pleased smile

I don't discriminate; oil is oil. Cheap: for me

Yeah, I was pondering a 10w30/0w20 QSUD blend smile

The PEAK 15w40 I'll probably give to pops(real father)

I left 2 more jugs of the PEAK on shelf. BTW, at this store Carquest 15w40 was "price cut" to $8.99/gallon so check your AAP folks

So, a hour ago pops says "let's go see if they have any Carquest 5w40 HDEO oil". We stop there, one jug left but at $18.99 he decided to grab last gallon of PEAK 15w40 and 2 gallons of Carquest 15w40. Those two jugs said $8.99, but rang up $3.75 each!

Not too shabby I must say

Yeah, I got some of the Peak 15w-40 (that is a syn-blend) for $4.95 for my bike. I only bought 3, but have debated going to get more.
I actually have no desire to get the QS, even though they would pay me to get it. I actually can say I have enough PCMO

Nice work Car51, my mind immediately went into frankenbrew mode, but being a 10W30 guy, I was more thinking 0W20 QSUD + 15W40 HDEO to create a semi-synthetic approximate 10W30 with a heavy add pack.

BTW Peak Heavy Duty 15W40 (mineral and semi-syn) is on the Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 list, so it's a high zinc HDEO. Probably somewhere around 1100 ppm at a guess, going by similar products.

Yeah some stores may vary. I hit another AAP this morning and PEAK 15w40 gallons at that one were marked $8.45, BUT rang up $1.45!

More peak 15w40 gallons at $1.85. They were on an end-cap and had no price tag.

OT Peak branding their oil "Bluedef" is completely stupid. When I think BlueDef, I think urea-water, and not about something I'd put in my oil fill. It probably sat on the shelf ignored as being misplaced.

Do a price check on the AAP QSUD 0W20- it will probably ring up as $2.15 per quart.

It's on the shelf for that price. But I have all the 20-weight I'll ever need. (Famous last words)

And yeah it's a mile from Windham Arms. Not aware they're such a famous institution. wink

If I can get a gallon of it for $1.85, I will just have to buy all they have. smile
I know there was only 1 left at my other store last week, but have 2 others close by that I may run by tomorrow.

Yeah, they are playing on the fact of them being the BlueDef makers, and it is a little confusing as to exactly what it is.

Scored too (two)! I am giving one my work colleague.
I can't spending $4 or $5 per quart for my Honda EU2000i which takes only 14 ounces and by default sits in the hallway foyer.

If you can score 15w40 PEAK for $1.85 as I did and poster above: DO IT! :^)

I gave pops 2 gallons of that PEAK 15w40 and 5 of the 14 quarts of QS HM 5w20 for his gas HEMI RAM P/U. The QS HM 5w20 was $1.00 quart each smile

That's pops Christmas gift smile

Apparently not $1.85 everywhere. Just got three jugs of BlueDef 15W-40 for just under $5 each. Thought someone had cleared them out entirely till I looked up and saw them on the top shelf.

Well, I grabbed 4 gallons of the Peak 15w-40 for $1.85 each.
Store had 6, but I was on my bike and could only carry 4 (plus I already have 3 gallons).

Clerk took a double take when it rang up, asked me if there was any more because he needs some for his bike.
Marked $18.xx on the shelf.

There was also some QS still on the shelf marked at full price (one 5 qt jug of 10w-30 syn, several misc qts of conventional).
No idea what they would ring up for, again I passed since I am good on PCMO.

Cashier won't sell the 15w40 for scanned price. For anyone else near the Indian Land store and wants to try their luck, there were 3 jugs left. QSUD was sold out except for maybe one 10w30 older jug.

Herp Derp'd and got 4 qts 10w30 Defy and 4 qts conventional 5w20 instead of 5 each to qualify for any other offers. Lol

Did score 8 qts of 5w20 for $2.15 ea. They didn't have any 5w20 jugs at AAP in Eustis. Did have some 5w30 jugs though.

Can't find any of the Peak 15w40. Really would like some of that to mix with the QSUD for my Jeep.

One store 3.85 for the 15w-40 PEAK, other $10. No QSUD in sight, unless they're hiding it in back.

So, down here in Dillsburg PA; nabbed 20 quarts of QSUD 0w20 marked $2.25 but rang up $1.10!

Nabbed 4 5quart jugs of PYB 10w30HM as it rang up $3.35 for each 5quart jug.

Frankenbrew time so comments on frankenbrew are welcome smile

How did you find out about PYB 10w30HM?

At this point, we should just have the clerk at every score ring up every bottle and see what's up LOL

Man! I got QSUD 0w20 @ .45 and PYB HM 10w40 5qt jug for $3.15

Didn't ring up any of the other oils as I was stoked to find that, but I definitely would go back for some Defy @ .35!

You are going to go make me go get some of this! I told myself (and have been good so far) no more PCMO.
How am I supposed to refuse to be paid $14 for getting 15 qts of oil?

Most of these oils are still listed on their website. So use that to see the inventory reported. That way you can see if its worth a try. No guarantee its onsale/clearance priced but will at least be there is it says so.

Ugh. One would think after having 200+ qts stockpiled and enough for 8+ years for 3 vehicles that I would finally say enough. I guess I could swing by a few stores on the way back to see if there are anything left... It now disappoints me that I have ever paid more than $1/qt for oil.

Got the same today at an AAP in the 'nati.
We were down that way and had a little time to kill, so we stopped in at an AAP.
Got six quarts of QSUD for .45/qt.
We were the only people in the store, so the counter guy and I had a little car talk going.
The guy asked me whether I had a truck and I replied that I did have an old E350 with 351W.
Guy went in the back and brought out a jug of QS HM blend that rang $1.35.
This store had no Idemitsu left, alas.
I didn't check on the HDEO, since I have plenty of Delvac 1300 as well as T5 and D1.

Stopped into 2 local AAPs...

1st store... nothing marked with red tags, no table with closeouts on it. I asked pricing on 2 items... QSUD 5w30 quarts (marked at 7.99) scanned at 3.35. QS Defy 5w30 (marked at 5.99) scanned at 2.35. Thanks but no thanks.

2nd store, alot of red tags but alot of cleared inventory. One stand out... Castrol Edge EP 0w20 quarts tagged at .95 but again all sold out.

Lastly, I did see the new design Valvoline SynPower 5w30 5 qt. jugs... too bad old inventory isn't marked down.

Rang up at sticker price, $6.89, at the AAP down the street in Mt. Dora, FL. They actually have red-tag prices that reflect the product, from QSUD to Edge EP, and as such, are cleared out LOL

QSUD 10w-30 fully synthetic was 2.15 on the shelf but rang up 4.15 so they let it go for 2.15, I pick up 6 qts but will be going back today . I just got turned on to this website and love the deals. I travel the state of Tn for work so I stop in at as many stores as I can.

QSUD 5w30 5qt Jug @ 1.65
QS HM 5w30 5qt jug @ 1.35
PYB HM 10w40 5qt jug @ 3.15

I'm done now! Have acquired over 100 qts at various prices. Today was the best deal hunt, but also a realization that I am good now. LOL

Spoke with three AAP counter folk; one wasn't sure where to find Idemitsu, second had to call her manager to confirm the prices were correct because QSUD shows $33.99 online even though it rang up @ 1.65. She wasn't unpleasant, just thrown off. I don't blame her lol Third guy has helped me before, cool laid back type, and I told him I was going to leave a few jugs for the next guy. He smirked and said "that'll probably be me" haha. Gotta appreciate a good counter-person.

Well not that I really needed to but dropped by AA on the way home from work. Had clerk scan one of each of what they had left in QS defy synthetic. Brought home all they had which was 3 10w-30 5qt jugs at $1.65. 10 quarts of 5w-20 at $0.45 and 18 quarts of 0w-20 @ 0.45. 43 quarts of good oil for a total of $18.82 tax and all. Not a bad deal at all

Nothing today at several shops. The former Carquests have the QSUD on the shelf at full price but rings up at $3.35...still not close to $0.65/qt.

One store had 5 qts of QSUD 0w-20 at .65 but I have plenty of 20 GRADE.

Went to purchase a couple Jugs of QSUD 5-30 and was told I cant sell it at $1.65 a jug. This must be a mistake. He refuses to sell it to me.

I had one lady call her manager to make sure the price was right. Manager said yep, we are clearing it out.

I really wish Autozone and Advance would get self checkout registers.

I have been denied scanned prices more times than i care to count, also sometimes i get the smart remark when i ask to scan it "isnt the price on the shelf".

Scored:
3 Peak 1 gal 15w40 @1.85 each
4 QSUD jug 5w30 @1.65 each
4 QSUD jug 10w30 @1.65 each
5 QS DEFY 5w30 qt @1.35 each
Used my speed perks for 5 off total. Saved plenty for my buddy who cleaned them out. Left the 20w since we both have no use for it.

HAHA yeah! When I brought up a jug of the PYB HM 10w40, I asked the lady if she could scan to verify the price. She reached for the flier and said well it's here for $19.99. I said, yeahhh buttt, could you just check? She said sure and then her jaw dropped when it rang up for $3.15 lol

Drove to an AAP in Manteo, NC today. They had no QSUD, and only two jugs of other QS 10w-30, one HM and one dino. Allegedly the vultures swooped in last night to pick them almost clean.

I scored some oil for my buddy... He gave me $20 and said see what you can do.... 30 quarts and some change later, he got a good kick out of it. Told him about the rebates and he's quite interested to see how all this plays out!

I did notice that the bottles I've gotten, range from gold bottle to green bottle. But all the 0w20 and 5w20 has been gold bottle. Did QSUD not make much of the green bottle 0w20? I see it listed on AAP's site, but no store in any county I am near has it in stock, but the gold bottle 0w20 is still around. Any ideas about that?

So far this is what I've seen:

QSUD 0w20 qt - $.45
QSUD 5w20 qt - $.45
QSUD 5w30 5qt jug - $1.65
QSUD 10w30 5qt jug - $1.65
QS Defy 5w30 - $.65
QS HM 5w30 5 qt jug - $1.35
Pennzoil HM 10w40 5qt jug - $3.15
Castrol Edge 0w20 qt - $.95
Castrol Edge 5w20 qt - $1.35
Motorcraft 10w30 qt - under $2, was a $1 and some change

I had a trip through NJ recently and I plotted out which AA I would stop by. I managed to score some of the following:
Castrol Edge 5w20 qt
QSUD 5w30 5qt jug
QSUD 0W20 quart (for a friend)
Idemitsu 0W20 4qt jug
Idemitsu 0W20 1qt

I also did a price check on the Castrol Edge 5W30 but that was discounted only about 50% (ie: ~$4-5/qt).

This semi-secret clearance sale is crazy.
in about 1/2 the stores I was in, the staff knew what was going on and in the other 1/2, I got to enjoy the clerk's eye pop out when the prices range up.

My buddy who gave me $20 said he'd appreciate if I found him some but didn't want me to go out of my way for it. I said pfftt, this is fun. I verbatim said "I like watching the cashiers eyes pop out of their sockets" LOL

Just went by AAP again this morning. They had the QSUD 0w20 on shelf, brought one up front for price check.
Still rings up as $4.16 each.

From what I understand, this is because the AAP store manager is too lazy or indifferent to do the weekly price changes that AAP corporate sends out.

Do you know how much the price goes down each week? 10%? 20%?

Spoke with a manager at a former AAP I use to go to in another town, he said clearance items can go down to 1 nickle, at which point AAP CANNOT sell the product, as the $.05 indicates a recall or defective item.

So it's possible these oils, of all sizes and types, can go down to $.10 LOL

Which is when they're supposed to pour out all the oil in their recycling tanks. I found a manager that was willing to sell oil for a nickel per quart including Magnatec. But the other stores that still had it on the shelves wouldn't do it.

When it hits a nickel they're supposed to pull it from the shelf. I even bought some Valvoline SynPower 20w50, 13 quarts of it. Then later sold it on Craigslist for $35. I think the date code on it was 2011.

Hmm yeah I wonder if that'd be more common with oil. I can understand if brake pads were recalled and couldn't be sold, but oil for $.05 being recalled? Maybe improperly labeled?

I guess I'll pause my oil quest until I hear of 5qt jugs going down to $.15 laugh

I think it was because they considered the oil outdated. A date code said 2011 and this was last year I bought it. So maybe at the 5 year mark they want it GONE. smile

Of course it's not spoiled and perfectly fine to use. I think they have a contract with the manufacturer that it needs to be clearanced at a certain time.

Funny you say such things :^)

I was just at the Advance Auto where gf used to live. Nabbed last 8quarts of QSGB 5w20 at .75 cents. One counter guy; Dennis is my neighbor.

Some young, stupid punk Jerry was ringing up the oil along with the QSGB 5w20 5quart jug and smart a** says "too bad you can't get this jug for what I got it for $1.15". I says "why the da** he** not? Dennis overheard this and comes over and re rings the jug up; comes to $1.00! So for lil' under $8.00 I now have 13 quarts of serviceable oil smile

Dennis put the 5quart jug on a different receipt btw

I've checked a few of the QSGB containers I've got, nothing older than Jan 2016 so far.

I was researching "Quaker State Advanced Auto Parts" for any kind of news, but so far just links to products at AAP or forum threads like BITOG and Garagejournal. Very interested to hear the real reason why QS is being cleared out so cheap.

QSUD 5w20 qt - $.45
QSUD 5w30 5qt jug - $1.65
QSUD 10w30 5qt jug - $1.65
QS Defy 5w30 - $.65
QS HM 5w30 5 qt jug - $1.35
Pennzoil HM 10w40 5qt jug - $3.15
Castrol Edge 0w20 qt - $.95
Castrol Edge 5w20 qt - $1.35
Motorcraft 10w30 qt - under $2, was a $1 and some change

Just what I saw and bought 3 minutes ago. Last 2 5quart jugs of QSUD 10w30; $1.65 smile

Last lonee quart QSUD 10w30 at $2.15/qt ain't bad either. SO, $5.78 out da door for 11quarts?! I'll take it!! smile
5quart jugs were April 2016, lone quart dated April 21, 2014

Of course it's not spoiled and perfectly fine to use. I think they have a contract with the manufacturer that it needs to be clearanced at a certain time.

I asked our AAP we deal with at work and the manager that stopped to talk to us told us: it's not selling well, he said that PYB AND PYB HM aren't selling well either. Truth or.....? You decide smile

I believe the it's not selling well. I hadn't gotten in on this until Friday and picked up what they had left of 5-30 full synthetic (4 5quart jugs) and 7 quarts of 0-20 @ $.45each. I left 3 quarts of 0-20 on the shelf . They had 3 5quart jugs of conventional green bottle for$3.65, but that seemed too steep after getting synthetic for 1/2 the price whistle (plus now I have enough 5-30 for the next 4 years with previous AZ clearances). Today I stopped in and they still had the 3 quarts of 0-20 on the shelf as well as the 3 jugs of conventional. Of course they could have been newly stocked, but I expect they were the same ones. They also had plenty of 5-20 on the shelf. I wonder if when it gets that cheap people are afraid to buy it thinking it must be no good.

Add me to the list of QSUD hoarders. I bought 39 quarts (45 cents each) of 0W-20 QSUD for $18.73 including tax. All of it is December 2016 production. Both the GMC and wife's Subaru are 0W-20 cars, so 13 quarts to do a change on each. 8 for the truck 5 for the Subie. Enough oil for 3 oil changes a piece for both.

Guess how my signature will be reading shortly.

As of one hour ago near me:
QS HM 5w30 5qt $1.35
QSAD 5w30 5qt $4.75
QSAD 5w20 5qt $1.25
QSAD 5w20 1qt $0.65
QSAD 5w30 1qt $0.25
QS HM 5w30 1qt $0.35
QS HM 10w30 1qt $1.05

Manager also said they had a delivery of the ADs as recent as this past weekend and the regional distribution will keep probably blowing them out until inventories are gone.

I grabbed 14 gallons of peak 15w40 for around $30 with tax today. The lady thought it was a computer glitch. She sold it to me anyway and even asked twice if I wanted her to check the storeroom for more. I said no this will do me. After taking advantage of the rotella 10w30 deal and the Delvac rebate offer I should be covered for 10 years or so. The peak will probably end up at my father in laws farm, there's never enough oil around the farm.

Glad you mentioned this, cause todays trip resulted in seeing a lot of QSAD but little to none QSUD or Defy/HM.
I guess the AAP's around here are now loading up their QSAD.
Maybe I'll score some conventional QSAD to mix with Ceratec or MoS2... hmmm!

I stopped at an AAP today to see what they had. Found 3 5qt jugs of QSUD 5w30 and 2 5qt jugs of QSUD 10w30. Grabbed one and took it to the register to check the price. His jaw dropped as he saw the price of $1.65. I told him that I am going to grab some more and he literally raced me to the oil rack and grabbed a few jugs. I asked if he was going to buy those himself and finally he said that he needed some oil and he will buy those. Very unprofessional. I would have never done that in front of a customer. He won the race but unfortunately for him he grabbed the QSAD and I grabbed the QSUD that I was interested in.

So 3 jugs of 5w30, 2 jugs of 10w30, and I found 3 more gallons of Peak 15w40, all for less than $15.

I purchased all the Synthetic and Defy they had at a store. All 10 jugs.

I will get paid around 10 bucks for purchasing all this oil. That's a good deal.

Got my 1st QS rebate check over the weekend for the $2.15/qt QSUD I bought last month (net 75c after rebate) which was real good imo.

Today I was near 2 AAP's and stopped in just to see if anything was left. Brought some quarts of QSAD up to the desk and they run up at $2.89 or something. But, the 2 jugs of 10w-30 HM syn blend were $1.35 each. The cashier couldn't believe it as they were on the shelf for $26.99. Even with the $4 left from my 1st rebate....this oil nets out no worse than getting it for a net -$1. Paid me to buy it!

Next store had the same 10w-30 HM but it was $19. No thanks. The jugs of AD 5w-20 were $1.25. Nice. A jug of Defy 10-30 HM was $6.95. While not bargain basement, took it anyways. The cashier here too was clueless and ran back to the racks to take the last 3 jugs of 5w-20 for himself. My 2 cashiers weren't well informed of this clearance. Supposed rebate limit of $21 per household. Yet, others here have reported going up to $30-$50.

Finally got my taste of free oil.

Honestly, if had grabbed the QSUD, you could have still won that argument if you made a big enough stink with the management or go higher up the food chain. I guarantee that they have corporate policies against employees competing with customers against store stock. Of course in the real world, nothing stops them stealthily from pulling stock and hiding it in the back, it is another thing all together to "race" a customer and then deny a customer the retail sale and savings.

Last year during the AutoZone clearance, I caught an employee pulling from the back of the shelving racks, pulling clearance oil to hide on a back room shelf. I confronted the manager on it and while he hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, once he seen I was not going go peacefully over it, pulled the hidden items from the back and made the sale to me.

Ended up near a few AAP's in East Orlando today so of course had to check their inventory. Scored quite a bit of 0w20 and 5w20, as well as 4 jugs of QSUD 5w30, all for $18.

The odd thing today is I could clearly see several jugs of oil being "hidden" on some back shelves. lots of QS, but also a lot of random oils. Makes me wonder if there's a handful of oils also on clearance none of us have discovered yet. A few clerks have told me about Royal Purple being cleared out awhile ago. One guy said he bought them all before the red tag was printed. I laughed but makes me wonder how much cheap oil I've missed out on due to the "in the know" AAP clerks.

They're still out there. Checked another local AAP today and found some QSUD quarts ringing up at 75c each. Added those to my growing stash.

Stopped by one looking for some VR1, shelf space was marked $0.65, but was empty.
All QS was also labeled with the red clearance tag. Only 1 jug of 10w-30 conventional left. No need for it so I left it.

VR1 20w50 is still $7qt around here.

Figure the VR1 + QSUD 0w20 would make a well rounded blend

I went by the local AAP the other day, and all the QS is gone. They were definitely discontinuing it. They did the same with Magnatec last year. The Idemitsu is gone, too. They said it had all been transferred out to another store for a commercial account.

I just got another rebate check today for $10. That was for 2 jugs of QS HM synblend that cost me $2.87 out the door. Didn't drive around looking for it as I was in that area any ways. Check came in 18 days. Nice.
