Not the deal of the century, but this is the cheapest I've seen it. Castrol Edge 5w-30 5qt is $20.14 at Walmart and Amazon.

Hey, you are right in that this is a fairly good deal at $4 a qt for a good quality Dexos approved oil that is also A1/B1 approved as well.

You don't see this come on sale often. It was the last two jugs I got to fill my stash I found some room for it.

I agree. At $20 this is as low as I have ever seen Castrol Edge Black bottle 5 qt container. Really a pretty good deal here.

It compares very well. New formulation has a ton of boron in it and a good amount of molybdenum as well.

Yep for the Edge 0W20 it has 80 ppm Moly and almost 400 ppm Boron in the recent PQIA test.

Castrol GTX was my go-to oil when I first started driving in the 70s and when I bought my new motorcycle in 1977. I haven't really used much Castrol in the past 30 years because I perceived it to have less than stellar cold weather performance. Having said that, I'm really liking the new Castrol formulations with lot's of moly and boron. I'd use it now without any reservation.

The first oil I ever purchased with my own money was GTX, I soon moved on to Penrite or Castrol Edge, but the recent PQIA analysis of GTX 5W20 looks very impressive.
http://pqiadata.org/Castrol_GTX_5W20.html

Noack at 11.6 %, TBN of 8.7, over 800 ppm zinc, over 80 ppm Moly and almost 200 ppm Boron.
The KV100 viscosity is 9.2 cSt, that is very thick for grade oil (which I like), as J300 puts the 30 grade oils starting at 9.3 cSt.

The new GTX is a very impressive conventional oil.

If its got Titanium EP/AW I don't approve if you will retreat to something without Ti - car seems to have withdrawal symptoms; It's happened TWICE to me. A double co-incidence? Unlikely.

Mr. Ken Likes the Maggy on 5w30 and 5w20 and Likes the QSUD in a 5w30 this year.

is the extended performance that much better than the black bottle edge? My mech loves the edge. I might go back to it or the 5w30 when my stash gets low. I ran the 5w20 HM black bottle and seemed to not go down as quickly as PP ..
