When I put the car in "D", it clunks when shifting into the overdrive, both downshifting and up shifting. When it is in"3", no clunks to be found at any time.
Is there a fix for this or time for a new car/tranny?.

Have you checked your ATF level following the instructions in your Owners Manual? How old is the ATF?

Clunking can also be caused by worn u-joints but that would typically occur more when starting from a stopped position.

Maybe someone has a better understanding of your specific model.

I'd start with a little preventative maintenance. At a minimum a drain and fill, hopefully there's a drain plug in the pan. Ideally, a pan drop with a new filter. Top off with new fluid.

Optional: add some Lubegard Red to it.

Option 2: Lubegard Dr. Shudder Fix

That's about it. Not too difficult. I need to do the same with the Matrix. Have a nice day kind sir.
