A google search reveals that thousands of people have asked that same question, and no one has received a definitive answer. Perhaps a decade ago, the NYT (or maybe it was the WSJ) asked the same question and contacted API, who told them there was around 1/3 gal in the hose. But how much fuel is in the pump and hard plumbing ?

If this is accurate then filling up a 1.25 or even a 2.5 gas can would make a difference. I have wondered about this since I refuse to use E10 in my OPE so I always fill my gas can after I've filled up one of my vehicles with E0. In reality it may not make that much of a difference but it's what I have done for many moons and don't plan on changing.
