I believe VirtusProbi has looked into this since he owns a TGDI vehicle. So far it only implicates turbo GDI engines.

In a spark ignition engine, the issue is always combustion chamber pressure. This is just a new way of achieving too high of combustion chamber pressure. If somehow that mixture lights off while the piston is coming up, bad things are going to happen.
