Interesting Asymmetric Pocketing on Wheel

That is a picture of the front wheel of my Camaro SS 1LE (in sig)

Usually pocketing is done symmetrically to retain balance but these are done in a weird way.. also it kinda looks like stress relieving cuts?

If you are curious the wheels have very little(few) balance weights on them.
 
Best guess? Balance.

Near the center of rotation, it takes a lot more weight to offset than it does at the rim flange. That would explain why there is such a large amount of metal removed.
