The only downside is that I have to pump it while driving.

I hope this is some prepper nonsense so you can recycle your own urine!

You'd need much more than filtration to recycle urine!

I hope you're using 0w16 or thinner or you're going to have a tough time pumping viscous oil with a hand pump.

At room temperature it isn't going to make much difference.

People made fun of a local farmer that filtered his oil through a gravity feed setup with rolls of toilet paper and put the oil back until they saw a few UOA's and how long his various engines were lasting.

Just assembled the setup and tested it.
It does not flow super quick, but quick enough.
I approximate 2 liters per minute.

I pumped 5w30 which was at about 40 °C

The oil comes out a bit more transparent, but still quite black.

Nice! Very good. Can do it every 5,000 km, and then change oil completely at 25,000 km, using a good synthetic oil.

I do 10,000 km per month so every penny that I save on maintenance adds up to a lot.

edit: after 20 minutes of pumping, the oil that is going out is identical to the oil going in. Looks like I hit the point of diminishing returns.

I thought you would just put one end in the dipstick hole, and the other end in a clean external container. Is that what you're doing?

No I put the oil back in the engine.

Anyway, those 1 micron filters are $2 each.
I'm tempted to buy the 0.3 micron one, but it's $20 just for one!

Is it legal to be doing this 'pumping' while driving? I hope not!

Might be very, very hard to explain the hand and shoulder movements to the Police or other innocent drivers that see you along the road.

I'll have my girlfriend do the pumping while I drive. Driving should be a team effort.

... is the hand pump part.

Can you list the other parts?

Home Depot or Lowes (in the U.S.A.) probably has the rest.

housing: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Water-Biodiesel-Filter-Housing-1-2-BSP-Cartridge-Bacinix-Ring/302365492886
the housing comes with 2 o-rings and one 5 micron filter

filters: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3pk-1-Micron-S...is/292031137713

I used two 1/2" to 3/8" adapters and two 3/8" to 10mm adapters.
The internal diameter of the red flexible tubing is 10mm (in my case).
And of course, a lot of teflon tape on the threads.

Going back in time, I would have ordered a filter rated for less microns. Maybe 0.1 um.
