Not that, I mean the event earlier in the week. In fairness to Hamilton, he is quite good with the public, and gets in all kinds of publicity related matters.

Kimi shuns and snubs all kinds of stuff yet remains ridiculously popular with fans. Go figure!

I'm no so confident. The quote I read was "I think the official version is that the fuel pump broke… and that also made us lose power and we had to retire the car."

That's not confirmation, it's a managed statement. In any case while Honda reliability has been woeful there have certainly been some issues related to non-Honda parts of the car also, but it's easy to point and go (Nelson voice) "Ha Ha Honda" rather than look at root causes.

I'm positive they'll never actually let on precisely what happened, we'll always get the "Official version".

Whatever the cause, another disappointment for Alonso.

Absolutely. Likewise when he's being blasted past on the straight by a Sauber powered by two Italians pushing furiously it's not really McLarens fault. They really need to get it together.

On the other hand, I get great pleasure watching him race the wheels of the trolley and I've heard that's where he gets his kicks at the moment. Let's face it, there's not much else for them.

If a McLaren is retired it's easy to assume it's Honda's issue; recent history would certainly favor those odds. In this case it doesn't strike me as a disinformation campaign. If your fuel pump breaks you lose power.

I think they got the idea from Ferrari after Kimi had them fetch a crying little boy out of the stands, and had him and his mom brought to the Ferrari garage to meet him, after he got knocked out on the first lap.
