Interesting paper has the differences in tribofilms formed (on test apparatus) with variances in additives and surfaces/coatings. Basically traditional lubricants are ferrous/ferrous, so they are reviewing what happens with traditional lubricants in newer generation interfaces...I've shared stuff on Fe/Al interactions previously.

Little tidbit on MoDTC negatively affecting some DLCs as well.

Interesting read. Thanks for posting Shannow.

I had wondered how these coatings being used in modern engines would interact with additives such as moly. As in most cases, trying to solve one issue usually starts another one unexpectedly.

Haven't read the paper yet, but I've wondered how the polar sticky oil molecules form on non-Fe surfaces and the various non-Fe coatings in an engine.
