Posting one last uoa in this thread. It has some leftover break in metals and while it's the new Delo XLE 10W30 (CK-4), the additives are skewed by the leftover Delvac Elite that was used in the previous oci. I'm currently halfway through the second oci of the CK-4 XLE and will start a new thread next time. There was a 20k mile oci from October '16 to early December '16. I had the overhead adjustment done and had the same shop put in the Delo when they were done. I wasted good oil but I guess at the time I was glad to be done with it. That's where the unaccounted for miles went between uoa #2 and the latest.

The newer Detroit's with the 50k oci recommendation have factory installed bypass filters, have you considered playing with the filter change interval and maybe swapping it at every other drain and fill? I.e. 30k change oil and ff and then at 60 changing all filters or something like that?

No bypass filter on the DD series engines. Detroit says they're not allowed on them. Maybe someone will put one on anyway, but not me, at least while under warranty. The DD series only have one cartridge style oil filter.

With CJ-4 oil the interval for my use was 50k miles or 1280 hours (whichever comes first). Now with the CK-4 oils, I can go 55k or 65k miles (depending on fuel economy) with no hours listed.

Edit- Volvo engines do have bypass filters. Two full flows and a bypass that are all spin on style. Detroit (surprisingly) does not use a bypass.

I did a little assuming there and jumped the gun, I read where you are running dd13, dd15 has 2 canisters, one being a bypass

hmmmm...I think what you are looking at is the coolant filter. For the first few years of the DD15 (and I believe the DD13 & DD16) there was a coolant filter cartridge next to the oil filter. It was all part of a module consisting of the oil and coolant filters along with the thermostat and water pump. They got rid of the coolant filter in '13 or '14.

Farther back on the engine is the fuel filter module with two or three fuel filters, depending on the model years. Early years had three, newer ones reduced to two (along with a big Davco filter on the frame).
