So its been a long time since I've had to do just a wheel seal. Unfortunately, which trying to replace a one-sided parking brake shoe seizure issue today, I found out why the other side wasn't seized. Decent amount of gear oil had seeped past the wheel seal of the rear axle on one side (Ford 8.8) and coated all the p-brake components.

Now, memory is failing me. Is it generally acceptable practice to simply replace the suspect seal or should one do both sides? Any reason to replace the wheel bearing as well? No rumbling noise.

Last time I did one the axle was trash too. Grooved so bad I ended up doing both axles along with bearings. You won't know until you pull it apart.

Are you doing the work or bringing it some place? If doing it yourself just do the seal. If you are bringing it some place, then maybe bearing also if it's not that much $$.

Naw, I do all my own work. This is our teenage/college student's car. I think, assuming OK inspection, that it will just be the seal.
