guidance on additive start up rattle

Liqui-Moly MOS2. DID quiet an old ford escort I have 360,000 + miles on it. plus it worked on on an old,old riding lawnmower that was making a ticking sound from start to finish. I dont know what caused the noise,, old age,, but it DID help.

Just a quick update, after my last change at ~ 60k, I eventually settled on Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 with solid/consistent results, roughly 3 seconds of start-up rattle at every crank and all quiet while running, but along the way my curiosity got the best of me ...

Tried Rotella Gas Truck 5w-30 with Lubegard no change in start-up rattle, but, had loud chain slapping noise at idle. It didn't subside/get quieter after 100 miles. Drained, put in Pennzoil Platinum all quiet. Next Oil change tried Rotella Gas Truck again because it was on sale for $12 without Lubgard, no change in start-up rattle and again, slapping noise at idle. Drained, put in PP, all quiet again. Before my recent Oil change had to add 1qt @ 4k miles and then by 7k was at the add mark. Coincidently popped a P0017 timing out of spec. code 🙁. This time tried Pennzoil Gold Syn-Blend (now redesigned?) and very surprisingly got the loud slapping sound at idle. Afte 20 miles drained, put in PP, all quiet. I've pushed my luck long enough, so at 107k miles I ordered a Cloyes Timing Chain kit, GM Actuator sprocket and just found out my neighbor's son is a GM mechanic to help me YAY !
