Best hardware for a stand alone Email server?

If you really must have a proper 'server' device for your email, save your money on that thing..

.. I have an older HP DL370 G3 2U rackmount server that I will sell you for less than that, and it has RAIDed drives, RAM, etc.. You'll just need to add an OS.

I agree with others that a mail server is simply not worth running myself, unless it is intended to be a learning experience.
Use a provider's email service instead. There are many options out there, from smaller Internet service businesses to huge corporations.
