Curious what you guys think. I have a 2009 Infiniti FX35 with the VQ35HR engine. Same engine as the Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35 of that year.
Infiniti calls for 5w-30 and I just noticed the dealer put in M1 0w-40 today according to my receipt.

Should I be concerned? Interestingly, I have noticed some folks here using the 0W-40 with this engine and liking it. I suppose I should be fine. Maybe they did me a favor?

Exactly!
Many Nissan/Infinity engines enjoy a nice drink of 0W40. The dealer did you a favor!

Char Baby and FordCapriDriver are spot on here. Mobil 0w40 is a big upgrade here... Meets MB 229.5 and Porsche A40..

Yes, it'll be fine. Everyone here must have collectively fallen out of their chairs, with a dealer putting in something more robust than specified, rather than the cheapest bulk they had available.

Because it is a 0W it will have cold flow that is better than a 5W, and because it is a 40 weight it will protect better than a 30 weight when it gets hot.

In other words 0W-40 is better than 5W-30.

I havn't really been keeping up with the trends.

Did "Follow the manufacturer's recommendations" go out of style?

How liberating.
