I have a 1984 Alpina B7/1 turbo coupe (m30 6cyl)that has lived it whole life on Dino 20/50 since new as that was Alpina's recommendation as well as Dinan who used to service car til I purchased. Been using VR 1 20/50 since 2000. Now has 156k n a garage king n comes out for about 750 miles a year but when it does,OH BOY, I put it thru its paces.
I'm ready for its annual oil change n been tossing around a synthetic
Modern BMW turbos ar spec'd with 10/60
Not sure if want t change viscosity as it was engineered for 20/50 .
I see Valvoline has Synthetic 20/50
Should I stick with what it's used too or switch .

I love the "dial-a-boost knob on the dash. May I recommend Mye28.com ? Tell them a sent you.

This car is 33 years old.
I don't see how changing the oil type would do it any good at this point.

That's just what I was wondering if benefits running synthetic would out weigh what's it's been running on.

My 99 Gmc @ 200k was starting to make significant lifter noise soon after Dino 10/30 oil changes n neighboring engine builder suggested switching it over to same viscosity synthetic n it has quieted down considerably thruout daily driving thus my consideration of Maybe switching over my B7.
I am hesitant to make change but if pros outweigh cons ..just maybe.
I assume if manufactured today synthetic would probably be recommended by alpina as synthetic outperforms Dino at engine high heat which turbos are noted for.

And yes dial a boost was advanced for an 84 , and it is on center console by handbrake not dash FYI.
I'll try mye28
